Description of event

Urban secondary carbonate deposits (USCD), such as the ones deposited in aqueducts, offer a possibility to reconstruct past water quality using trace elements combined with isotopic analyses. However, establishing their accurate chronology presents a challenge, and a combination of chronometers is required (e.g., U-Th, 14C, lamina counting). The lecture will present the approaches developed and the results obtained from the study of USCD in the historic underground aqueducts of Paris.

The lecture is within the framework of the Hungary-France bilateral project 2023-1.2.4-TÉT-2023-00009 “Improvement of isotopic measurements for (paleo)environmental studies”, related to U-Th dating, and part of the visit of the French partner LSCE (PI Edwige Pons-Branchu) at ATOMKI (PI Marjan Temovski).
